1 person found it helpfulApr 12th, 2021Natural Yeasts, alcoholic fermentation and elevage on fine Lee's in barrels for 9 months. No filtering or fining. 4000 bottles produced. Absolutely one of my favorite young gun of Champagne. They only propose Brut Nature style; Biodynamic agriculture and making. Marvelous results everytimes. Very few others I would pick over these guys.

1 person found it helpfulOct 23rd, 2017These Ruppert-Leroy champagnes are so very distinctive, aren’t they? As soon as you open one, you can tell this is going to be an experience. An almost peachy gold color with very, very faint green specks. Impressively paced tiny bubbles. The nose is straight RL with hay and strawberry. Old wood and citrus. These aromas do not come immediately, it’s more than a bit shy and takes plenty of time to get going. Let it sit for a while and you’ll be rewarded.
This beauty is pure tension and drama and I’m all the way here for it. 100% Pinot Noir from the La Fosse Grely lieu dit in the village of Essoyes in the Aube. A sans soufre wine with zero dosage disgorged in late 2020. Very energetic and thrilling, especially the longer you spend time with it.
Quite autolytic in profile and very unique, but the important thing is that it’s delicious. The acidity is racy and lively and on the palate, this becomes amazing after an hour or two. The cherries and raspberries take a backseat to wood, spice, and everything nice. Fantastic length. This is not a wine made for everyone to be honest but it is glorious stuff for the rest of us.

Different from my last btl: LR 15 (based on 15 vintage), but disg Sep 2017. 100% PN, Brut Nature and no sulfur. Smelled a little oxidized tbh, like sparkling chenin: soft copper, lemon, cranberry, a hint of vanilla. On the palate: fantastic acidity, mousse still a bit aggressive, leaning very hi-toned with loads of high-acid lemon and red raspberry. Missing something on the midpalate, and an almost underripe kiwi-strawberry finish. Not bad, but would have preferred better density.

Oct 16th, 2021LR15, disg 10/2018. On the nose: vanilla, rose hips, chamomile, soft marzipan...rather unique. On the palate: fantastic acidity, meyer lemon, wet stone, good density. Soft mousse, orange peel, good lift, but a touch clipped on the finish. I liked this, but my wife was less excited about it...
