This superlative food wine is all about the bright cherry and blueberry fruits. The oak is nicely restrained and there’s a bit more sweetness to the finish than the sip. Bellissimo!

Good for the price, not as complex or full like it’s counterparts. Cherry and leather with a more delegate tannic structure.

First Italian red wine I haven't fallen in love with. Even after decanting it still had a bitter edge. I didn't pay much and it got what I paid for.

Tart cherry on the nose, cherry cola, florals: rose, lavender. Slight vanilla. Heavy, tannic palate. Fresh herbs. Rustic and pretty drinkable after three hours of decanting.

2020 vintage. Checked multiple (4) Trader Joe’s locations to see if there was any more of the verry solid 2019 vintage left anywhere. No luck. Took the plunge on the new vintage. Still worth the ca$hi$h. Lots of prettier fruits and medium body. Not as much structure as the 2019 but that dropoff was expected. Won’t drink as much of the 2020 as I did the 2019 but for $14.99, it’s still a relative bargain. Will hit again. 4.8.24.

decently tart and acidic, lots of darker fruit notes — black cherry and plum, pretty oaky along with some spice and nuttier notes

So here is the thing. Mr A. Scott is right. He did not say it in so many words - i guess he wants to clear out T.J.’s. But this wine which can be awful in some years is right on and for 15$ buy it by the case. The classic Barolo flavors one would expect + surprisingly anise on the nose and in the glass. Tons of tannins which could turn off for the usual crowd. But this is actually very very good for what it is. Unbeatable at this price. A miracle.

2019 vintage. Picked up at Trader Joe’s-La Mesa, CA. $14.99. Popped and poured without any down time. This came out swinging. Great, expressive nose of the usuals-like tar, rose petals and slightly tart cherry-with a brushy, decaying leaves undercurrent. Medium body. Lacking the unbridled power of the top Barolo efforts on the back end but it was still a 25+ seconds finish with a dusting of cracked black pepper regardless. Expected a lot less and received much more. Very pleasant balance of fruit and tannins currently without any particular component/moment stealing the show. Not to be dismissed, intro and mid-palates amply represented. Will go back this week for more. 14% ABV. 1.23.24.

Mazzaro $?
Tart, tannic, cherry, woody.
Was good with steaks, little heavy by itself
