It may because I was enjoying it directly from a cellar in Florence, but this wine over delivered on every expectation I had. Lovely fruit still dominates, softly coating the mouth and leading to a finish that lingers.

Grabbed another bottle. Rocca delle Macìe was purchased in ‘73 by the late Italo Zingarelli, former boxer and film producer. Grapes exclusively from estates of Rocca delle Macie, Le Macie and Sant'Alfonso vineyards. Ruby with dark berry fruit aromas and oak scents, a blend of Sangiovese (80%) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Flavors of black cherry and currants with cacao and tobacco notes. Firm tannins that softened after a glass, nice mouthfeel, lingering ending with oak and mineral tones. Consistent!

App has this one wrong. It's a red blend. Not white.

This wine is still in great shape, and full of life. Underbrush, tart red cherry, dry herbs and firm acidity. Lovely, mature Sangiovese, only a touch of rusticity. Personally, I have a soft spot for this wine, because it is one of the very first wines that I bought for cellaring. Extremely rewarding and interesting to follow its development over the years. 2 bottles left in the bin.
