2005 vintage. 100% Mauzac, minimum 7 years in cask "sous voile". A worthy alternative to the Jura Vin Jaune (at half the price). Deep amber yellow. Intense perfume reminiscent of Amontillado sherry and Vin Jaune, but with more (dried) fruit like figs and orange confit balancing the nutiness. Very complex taste combining fresh acidity with hazelnut, walnut, Indian spices, dried apricots and figs. Impressive length too. Fantastic meditation wine, but it paired beautifully with Brézain, a smoked cow's milk cheese from the Savoie. Indian food seems like a great partner too. Highly recommended and incredible value at 34 euros if you like this kind of wines.

Aromatically hard to distinguish this from a good Amontillado: smoked almonds, cheese rind, herb liqueur. Bone dry and racy on the palate without the bracing acidity of Vin Jaune or Amontillado. Someone hook a brother up with some fried smelt.

Super interesting, like Jura, but definitely it's own thing.

This type of oxidative wines is often characterized by an enormous aromatic complexity, and an intense, dry mouthfeel. This Vin de Voile sure delivers with hints of spicy honey, a lot less nutty than I would have expected, and very very floral notes. On the palate the best description I can come up with is savoury, mouthwatering dry but not as lean and focused as I am used to with Jurassic Vin Jaune. It is quite rich in style actually, but clean and fresh in the finish.

More elegant than a Vin Juane?!..... Absurd? No really!!! Earthy, drier, root rockin' Gaillac
