Pagani Ranch Sonoma Valley Zinfandel Blend

I love properly aged Ridge. At 12 years old this shows no bricking but hints at maturity with a slightly carmelized sweetness. 2012 was a cool year and this bottle is more elegant than some other Paganis. 👍👍

History begins in 1885, when Osea Perrone, a doctor in San Francisco's Italian community, bought 180 acres near the top of Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Blend of 84% Zinfandel, 9% Alicante Bouschet, 7% Petite, aromas of jammy red/black fruits and loads of complex spice. The palate shows flavors of sweet plum and cherry with pepper, smoke, tobacco and herbs. Fine tannins on the grainy side, well balanced long ending with earthy oak.

Really well balanced zin. Pagani ranch is a Sonoma producer of berries to several wineries. Indigenous yeast. Well made. 14.8 ABV. Cheers my friends!!!

Benefits from several hours of air. Spicecake, licorice, dark, brambly fruits. Well balanced even at 14.8%. Structured fruit that isn’t too concentrated. Pair with meat or wait seven years.

2014 vintage. Super elegant manifestation of Zinfandel, but with just the right rustic edge. Dark mullberry, black plum, cedar, black cherry, blackberry, black pepper, dried herbs, clove, bay leaf, a little smokiness. Not nearly as jammy as when I tasted it last year during a supplier visit. 80 Zinfandel, 17 Alicante Bouschet, 3 Petite Sirah. Don't ever change your labels, Ridge!

Juicy, flavor packed and rich tobacco. Extracted ripe fruit...fresh squeezed blackberries and raspberries. Boysenberry too on the nose with oak. So rich and delicious on the palate with liqueur, and sweet tart. Enough acidity to keep this from being too flabby. American oak here?

This really needs more time in bottle in my opinion. It is a beautiful wine but it will be superb in just a few more years. The folks at Ridge are incredible.
