In such a beautiful spot. Oak vanillin still present, tannins smooth and pleasant. Delicious ripe dark fruit.

Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.

One of my favorites of the night, and still improving. Everything about this was classic and balanced. Not overtly American oak driven but there is definitely a cooled coconut note with espresso on the nose. Dusty. Sweet tannins with juicy blackberries and underripe blueberries highlight the finish. Enjoyable now if you give it 1-2hrs in the decanter, but better in 5yrs. Thanks

Young. Strong tannins. Evolved throughout the tasting, but will need some time in the bottle to blossom into what appears to be a well structured Bordeaux blend.

Good now with plenty of firm tannins for ageing. Red cherry flavors after savory notes.

Perched high atop the North Atlantic plate in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Ridge’s Monte Bello property boasts a rich lineage that goes all the way back to the 1880s. Even today, the drive up the winding roads that lead to the top of Monte Bello is arduous. It’s virtually impossible to imagine what conditions must have been like 130 years ago. Ridge's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is fabulous. Beams of tannin and acidity make a strong opening statement, but there is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine's frame. This is an especially dark, virile Estate. Then again, that is 2013. Inky blue-purplish fruit, licorice, sage, exotic spices, and lavender grace the exquisite finish. This is an absolutely delicious mountain Cabernet endowed with real pedigree and class. It is also arguably the single greatest value in California Cabernet Sauvignon. Has a long life ahead of it, young. American oak, pure fruit, intense, good stuff. 13. hours later, the fruit is crazy intense, dark, the wood is more of an accent. Love the wine, love the packaging...the first label that ever really stood out to me.

I loved this. I'm usually not swooned easily by California cab these days, but this bottle rocked me. Juicy rich sweet black fruit, vanilla and chocolate overtones and aromatics of cedar, market cherry, and eucalyptus. Dense but velvety on the finish. What a well-done cab from an oft-overlooked part of California. It probably didn't hurt that I had Georg Riedel pouring it for me out of a gorgeous decanter either.

Pretty vanilla nose, good balance, but it's a little woody for me.
