Ridge Vineyards
East Bench Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel
Deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits and tangy spices. On the palate flavors of blackberry and raspberry with black pepper, tar, spice and a touch of earthy herbs. Fine rustic tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, earthy spice and some oak. Nice!

Jul 26th, 2022Intense and dense but vivid aromas of strawberries, raspberry toffee, bramble, roses, Pronounced savoury and earthy spice character of cinnamon, nutmeg and a sweet vanilla note that brings a balanced complexity.
Palate is dry, medium acidity and Medium fruity tannins, soft and approachable but still it provides a solid framework that guards the palate, well integrated alcohol in a full body with a sweet and ripe, toffee like red fruit, profile that remain its nerve and tension and is far from feeling heavy. A dimensional complexity of vanilla and spice brings nuance a cross the mid palate through a solid finish that falls a tad short from the major league.

Since we were not able to go to Ridge this year do to the California Covid travel restrictions, we decided it was only appropriate to pop one (okay 2) bottles for dinner. They say chalky tannins, but I didn’t get that. Instead I got the Dry Creek Zinfandel (best in the world) deep dark fruits and some of that black pepper. We will shoot for a trip once this is all over. Restaurants and wineries all need our support during this pandemic and afterwards.

Dec 5th, 2020With the roughly 4+ years of bottle age this was showing nicely albeit at its peak. Lovely black fruits danced with warm Spivey notes and the palate was full and balanced. Very happy I didn’t pull the cork on this wine early.

Loaded brambly fruit overwhelmed our braised short rib. Reserve for grilled meats or cream sauces. Still, a fruit bomb I can get behind.

Oct 23rd, 2020A delicious and earthy Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley. Showing black fruits, wood, licorice, spices, dark chocolate, black pepper, peppercorn, spices, green vegetables and wet leaves.
Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry and fruity with lots of earth notes on the nose.
Long finish with firm tannins and tangy raspberries.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, as it wasn't good right out of the bottle, so give it time.
Good by itself or with food. I enjoyed it all by itself. This 6 year old is very tasty now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.
100% organic Zinfandel grapes. Aged for 12 months in Oak barrels. Bottled January 2015.
14.9% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
