Jammy, round, blue and black fruits. Tannins have softened. This wine was really big when young but now it is in its drinking window and is much nicer.

This wine is awesome. Dense. The fruit is so deep, dark and layered. north of the Lytton estate, on the western edge of the Alexander Valley in Geyserville. All of this Carignane was planted between 1920-1950’s. Really good wine that has a long life in front of it.

Aromas are lush and round: ripe blue and black berry fruit, warming spice, and a dollop of vanilla from the oak. Nice acidity and relatively lean body (which I like), but unfortunately the mid-palate is hollow and the finish very short. A bit underwhelming as I was expecting more concentration and length from these 60-80 year old vines.

Somewhat bretty, which is rare for Ridge in my experience. Everyone guessed old Bordeaux. Not bad, just a bit atypical.

Checking in at age 6. Sucker's still too young.

Easy to drink now! Smooth tannins and not very complex but down right enjoyable.

This is about as good as Carignane gets. I would happily put this up against a great Carignane-centric Priorat. Gorgeous nose has deep, pure, red berry fruit, wet river stones, and a zesty dusting of spice. Just beautiful balance in the mouth. Rich fruit with no jammy excess, subtle barrel scents, subtle stony notes. Great acids. And for Carignane, with is not known for its length, it has a surprisingly lengthy, juicy finish. Very impressive.
