This is in an awesome spot. Has developed complexity in the bottle that shows on pop and pour. Incredible nose with dark smokey fruit and leather leads to a palate of great texture with rust and garrigue notes. Continues to expand and develop over an hour.

Excellent Syrah. We had it right before Jamet Cote-Rotie 2000, and I thought the Rhys was interesting and respectable in contrast.

Just like a spectacular, old school C么te Rotie from the C么te Brune with pepper and minerals dominating the nose, then olive, pepper, and brambly fruit and the palate, if you want to experience what great C么te Rotie was like on release in the 1990s, this is where to look.

Powerful dark berries across the palate accented with spicy/peppery aromatic notes & flavors. Wonderful depth while maintaining a medium bodied, approachable weight. I really like what Rhys does with Syrah.

Barnyard, raspberry, and black pepper on the nose. Full bodied, fruity, with good acidity and spice.

Amazing white pepper unlike any Syrah I've ever had from California, with roasted beef and blackberry and raspberry, both the fruit and bruised green canes. It is a little lean and tart on the palate, which I find very appealing but which may be offputting to some. It's startling reminiscent of old school Cote Rotie in the elegant style, like 80s and early 90s Ogier, Jasmin, or Gallet, and reminds me how much I miss them. It also reminds me of Texier's Serine wines.
