Too young, not expressing the depth that feels concealed within.

The 2014 ‘In The Rocks’ Syrah by Reynvaan is a sensational wine at now five years of age. The stony edge to the wine is truly shining as ripe red fruits dance with shades of blood orange zest, white truffle and Umami which all meld together in unison in the glass. The palate shows vibrant acidity and a seamless quality with its silky texture that runs through the core of the wine. Bulls blood, Satsuma orange zest, wet stone, Umami, red cherry candy and black currants all come together on the palate. Profound and scintillating, with wonderful purity of fruit and serious range, this stunning wine is really at its peak right now and will cellar well for at least another five to seven years. Drink 2019-2024- 94

Holy Mac Holerton!!! Something really... something... about this bottle. Normally, I'd say it's lacking in acid... Yet, Hey-Zeus! Everything is sooooo perfectly balanced... It all just ceases to matter. Dee-licious! Food wine? Yes! Great on its own? Yes! Confusing and intriguing? Yes! That's why Reynvaan reds are so terrific. Accessible AND esoteric.

Gorgeous mulberry, underbrush, smoked brisket nose! Fresh cracked pepper dusted blackberries too. Even at 8-yrs old, this was still fairly young on the palate and evolved beautifully on day 2. Harmonious blend of red and black fruit with secondary notes of meat & iron. Not full on funk like Cayuse, but not a dark, heavy fruit forward Syrah from Cali. Marriage of both. Smooth from front to mid palate with a spiced pepper finish. Fantastic and happy to have more (but not enough...need to secure more!) Had this @Bill Bender ?

This was my contribution. I’ve been fortunate to try quite a few different offerings from this vintage from Reynvaan and this is the most funk driven I’ve come across (as expected for the fruit source). Up front there is a lot of bacon fat, Olive tapenade, peppered teriyaki beef jerky and underripe blackberries on the nose...typical Rocks funk. On the palate, NRhone like with the lightness while retaining power. Cracked black pepper, blue fruit, bay leaf, iron and tangy red fruit finish. Nice acidity. More iron as it opens. Benefits from food as the savory-ness begs for a compliment to cut through it. Very nice example of Rhône style Syrah from Walla Walla.

Star of the lineup was the in the rocks Syrah. Cool climate and a dead ringer Clape Cornas. This wine was hauntingly good. It helped that Mike Reynvaan served it to me 😄

Their second vintage. Still young at 7 years but developing finely. Should be superb in the 2020s.
