Oct 8th, 2020Gideon Beinstock’s note on the label suggested, at the time of bottling, that the lifespan of this wine would be 15-25 years. The high end of that range has turned out to be correct. Dried sweet red and purple fruit, creme de cassis, classic renaissance herbal and cedar/mesquite note. Tannins resolved into the background but still present; slightly but perceptibly drying out, should hold another few years

Wow. Guessed ‘98 Brunello blind. Wouldn’t have guessed new world in ten tries. Past peak but still offering dried red fruit, resolved tannin, and uplifting acidity. Look forward to researching this producer.

Jan 9th, 2019The concentration and intensity on this 16-year-old bottle is mind blowing. At the core, pure ripe red and black cherry and berry fruit, moving towards the stewed end of the spectrum, with savory herbs, cedar, and earth radiating out brilliantly. Medium-full bodied, with high acid and high tannins, structure (with the complementing fruit holding strong) to last another decade or more. Though I know he was gone by this vintage, it’s hard not to see Gideon’s lineage in this bottle - Sierra wines that have something to say, with wild intensity and purity of fruit. Great food wine, enjoyed with steak frites at home. Decant for a couple hours to throw some sediment and let things mellow just a touch. 🌄

In its drinking prime with mulled fruits alongside spice & cedar top notes. ENORMOUS sediment. Stand up 72 hours in advance & decant.
