Jun 4th, 2021This has long been one of my favorite California wines ever made, and I think it is one of the most profound expressions of terroir in the state. I’ve been drinking it regularly for the last 10 years or so. Lately, I’m sad to say, it has begun to decline a bit. The bottles I’m opening aren’t quite at their best the way they used to be. Nonetheless while the sour cherry brightness may have been replaced with dried cherry, herbs and leather this is still a remarkably pleasurable bottle of wine with gorgeous structure and deep crushed-granite minerality.

Nov 13th, 2020This is still one of California’s greatest terroir expressions. Stunning forest floor, cedar and potpourri aromas layered on cherry, dried red apple skin and that deep granitic minerality. Stunning.

Jun 16th, 2020Delicious as always and still holding together. Dusty earth, cassis, sandalwood and iron on the nose. Palate melds smokey mesquite and green herbaciousness with a core of sweet black brambly fruit. Tannins definitely still there but resolving. A vintage to drink and enjoy now, at risk of drying out in the not too distant future

Oct 11th, 201541% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Syrah, 7% Petit Verdot, 1% Sauvignon Blanc.
Sheet of sediment in bottle, stood upright 24 hours, before decant. Filtered into decanter. Nicely aged. Strong bottle notes in decant. I recommend 3 hr. Decant. 4 hours onward, fruit notes waned.
In the tasting notes, Marijuana resin is noted. Yes, there is a taste of hash or cannabis resin in the dark notes of the wine. Pleasant, well integrated, savory, in the know.
Delicious, mature beauty. Dark bottle notes, with still bright cherry note. Cherry notes notable for estate, beautiful energy in wines.
Enjoy now.
Thank you for being present.

One of the best wines I’ve ever tasted. Acidic and complex. Very long finish. Leather, cherry, tannin. Over the course of 45 minutes, it changed from good to great to bad to good.
