Great classic barolo, high tannin but softened with food, black tea roses/leather, perfumed yet elegant…

Nose of complex spices, tar, roses, flowers and big time cherry. Cinnamon and clove. Really on point nose. Deep minerals and aromas of chestnut. Palate has tons of sweet fruit and is very concentrated and pure. Big and ripe tannins that are substantial and fine grained. Long, chewy finish and wonderful purity. Big cherries and intermingled with spice on the palate. Long finish. Dynamite. There is a hint of tomato on the nose but adds does not detract. Wonderful opulence and mouthfeel.

While young-ish by Barolo standards, the 2012 Massimo Rattalino “Trentaquattro 34” Barolo is already in its prime. Both right out of the bottle as well as after a quick decant, one can literally smell, taste, and FEEL it coming to life. With every sniff, sip & swallow it seems this fine example of Nebbiolo evolves from something juicy and joyful into a much thicker and complex character. For its price, if you can find one of these- have at it. Wonderful juice.

Awesome stuff. Classic nose. Rose, tar, chestnuts and spice. Waiting stellar aromas. Cherry flower as well. Terrific juiciness and inner mouth aromas and intense sweetness and voluminous fruit yet with all that this is so so fresh. Incredible mid palate and insane crushing fruit and velvety tannins. Wow.

Oh wow. This is epic.

Nose is a deep pink rose. Jam your Shnozz in it deep and dense.

Palate is sweet juicy delicious fruit. A hint of spice. Finish is like a lingering Mozart note. So beautiful.

Still a bit grippy tanin wise. So still has a while to go.

Elite balance and aromatics. Got a 97 in decanter. It might hit that in 5-10.

$48 at fass hahahahhaaha.

Tar and roses in the nose. Such delicious sweet fruit on the palate. Nicely mineral. Delicious spice. Some licorice. Long Balanced. Love this producer. Bought from Fass Selections. Ok after 90 minutes this is insane. Imagine thrusting your nose into he most aromatic sensual rose ever and breathing in deep after being without oxygen for a minute. That sensual perfume. That rosiferous almost sexual rose musk like aroma. Like what a male rose smells like when it’s trying to attract another rose. That’s what this tastes like. Wow. I love this wine.

Stunning bottle of 2013 Barolo. Incredible fruit and aromatics. Huge florals, huge tar, huge minerals. Wow. Perfumed. Dried roses. Fresh potting soil. Chestnut. Tobacco. Insane. Palate is incredible. Huge huge fruit. Almost a crystalline purity. Wow. Big tannins and structure but perfectly ripe. Amazing spice and depth. Huge fruit soak. Mid season cherry. Thoroughly ripe. Amazing balance and freshness. So long. A baby but super impressive.

There is almost no red left to this bad boy, a complex color of brick, caramel, brown, roan.
The nose has a deep, delicious, stickiness, tar, spice, carob, clove, burnt orange peel, more. A swirl brings more.
There’s citrus in the nose, but it’s deep and teasing. Smelling, your mind wanders to places known and unknown.
P: is luscious, completely balanced. Tannins present but integrated. Liquorice, menthol, cocoa, mushrooms , dark red candy, the woods, creosote that lingers and turns into sweet tar. A complete pkg.
I believe at peak.
One of the finest Baroli I’ve encountered.
Thanks@ FassSelections

2013: Solid Barolo, drinking well now. Serious and relatively full-bodied, with plenty of classic tertiary Barolo flavors like menthol, tar, leather along with sour cherry fruit. Tannins are firm but not overwhelming. Would rate this even higher but doesn’t have the fruit concentration of the greats. One critic gave this a 98 (!). $43 - good deal - at Gary’s.
