The first time I tasted this I wasn’t too impressed. I was expecting a ripe #cabernetfranc from California in my mind. I just tasted it blind among other #cabernetblends and it was one of the best. Deep ruby color with pronounced aromas of black fruit with savoury meaty (Bolognesa, Beef Bourginon) flavors. High fine grained tannins. #southafrica #stellenbosch

Deep ruby red with garnet edges. Quite a bit of greenery on the nose with some earthiness as well as a touch of cherries and perfume. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and medium plus body. Very young overall with notes of dark berries, chalk, earthiness and spices. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2028.

The Raats 2016 Cabernet Franc shows ripe, lush and beautifully floral fruits. Blackberries, dark plum, black raspberries, dark cherries, strawberries dark chocolate, mocha, caramel, vanilla, light; cinnamon, clove & nutmeg, herbaceous notes, tobacco, dry crushed minerals, saddle-wood, black, dark, rich soils and fresh, red, dark and blue florals. Beautiful acidity. Elegant, ripe, well polished, rich finish.

Photos of; the view from their tasting room, lots of beautiful original artworks from famous local artists...a few of them the Uncle of our host, examples of some of the soil structures around their tasting room vines and their upstairs tasting room.

@Shay A I think you would like their Cabernet Franc and appreciate the QPR as well if you can find them in TX or another state that can ship to you.

Medium mix of garnet and ruby red with light sediment. A touch of greenery on the nose, less than expected for a Raats. Notes of chalk, dark spices and red berries too. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. Very dry with flavors of cherries, spices, and some earthiness. Long and dry finish. Drink till 2019.

Deep garnet to medium ruby red. Strong bell pepper on the attack of the nose with some perfumey, a touch stinky and some minerality. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and medium bodied. Layers of red cherries, gravel, dust, chalk and a touch herbaceous. Medium plus finish. Drinking well right now and will drink well for the next couple years. Drink till 2019.
