Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course two hours. The 2019 “Uvaggio”pours, a bright garnet color with a transparent core, moving to a rose colored rim. Medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, strawberry, raspberry, pink roses, talcum powder, a smell that reminds me of the produce section in a grocery store of a developing country (yeah, it’s specific but, fight me), dried green herbs, and stony earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is long, juicy and a touch spicy with a bit of black pepper that I find quite intriguing. A delicious pairing with lamb/beef kofta. All in all, another brilliant vintage of “Uvaggio” and further proof that the work of Luca DeMarchi at Proprieta Sperino is worthy of serious attention. Drink now through 2034.

The 2016 Uvaggio is gorgeous. Bright, effusive and chiseled, the 2016 is so expressive today. Crushed rose petal, red berry fruit, blood orange and spice are all brightened by lively acids and beams of supporting tannin. I am blown away by how fresh the 2016 is at five years of age. A wine of unreal beauty and pure class, the Uvaggio can be enjoyed today or cellared for a decade, maybe more. It sure is impressive. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2022)

Maybe the forth or fifth time I’ve had the 2017 vintage and it’s been lovely each time. In the glass wine appears deep ruby with a nearly translucent core. Medium viscosity with slight staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is intense, redolent with dark cherry, Spanish paprika, red flowers, dried herbs and porchini. On the palate, the wine is dry, with almost chewy, sweet tannin (medium++). Acid is medium+. Confirm dark cherry fruit, bergamot, dusty earth and dried herbs. The finish is long, round and savory. Overall, a fresh and juicy example that stays true to its roots.

Searingly tart. Tart cherry aromas. Fruit- driven.

Polished, almost refined Nebbiolo. Granite. Tremendous lift and elegance. Tiniest hint of Alpine resin. So many great estates in Alto Piemonte now!

Always a crazy train. The first 15 minutes, it’s all tenderness, perfume and almost Chambolle-like; then, the cranberry, rose hips, roast game bird Nebbiolo thing kicks in. Pure, vital and refreshing. #proprietàsperino #nebbiolo #costedellasesia #vespolina
