Polished, almost refined Nebbiolo. Granite. Tremendous lift and elegance. Tiniest hint of Alpine resin. So many great estates in Alto Piemonte now!

Always a crazy train. The first 15 minutes, it’s all tenderness, perfume and almost Chambolle-like; then, the cranberry, rose hips, roast game bird Nebbiolo thing kicks in. Pure, vital and refreshing. #proprietàsperino #nebbiolo #costedellasesia #vespolina

Perhaps the best Nebbiolo on the planet, for 25 bucks. Right up there with some of my favorite wines from more chic appellations. This is roses and dried beef. This is lusty, tannic, and brilliant.

I think Alto Piedmonte is a great wine for Summer. Nervy, aromatic, lively yet full of tannic grace and charm. Tart res berries, cherry, wildflowers, smoke, minerals and wild herbs. Love its chisel, the leanness that this vintage has.
