My first experience with the 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo. The wine pours a light, bright ruby with a transparent core and slightly watery rim. The nose is all about the bright raspberries and slightly funky cherries. It’s super dry…with extremely firm tannins and high acid. At this stage, the structure overwhelms the fruit a bit which makes it come across a touch austere. However, with time, I suspect this will come around. Anyway, for $20, this is awesome.

Light and clean, with lots of cherry fruit as it’s opened. After being decanted and opening up for three hours, it comes into a new balance with softer tannins. Wonderful with grilled lamb chops and a spring vegetable risotto.

Such a contradiction, this one. This wine has a fairly subdued nose. Pale color, almost Pinot like in body and color, but there is nothing light about it. Big, expressive, and tannic is how I would describe this one. Next time I will decant for longer. Nice quality, excellent QPR.

Surprise, another Nebbiolo! Lots of tar with those roses. Really luscious tannins. Dry—and not kidding about it—and chalky, not a huge body. Stewed cherries, brambles, dried violets, a little ferrous. From Flatiron Wines (probably?). 03/19/22
