Chianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese

@Delectable Wine this is actually the Riserva. Popped and poured. The 1983 Podere il Palazzino “Chianti Classico Riserva” pours a deep, hazy garnet color with significant rim variation that leads to a burnished orange rim. On the nose the wine is vinous and laden with secondary notes. The fruit is mostly desiccated at this point. Dried cherries, dried orange, dried leather, forest floor, damp earth, some soft spices. The structure is barely holding on with the tannins completely integrated and the acid just enough to keep it alive. But the main point here is that it is, in fact, alive and it’s always a special treat to experience a 40 year old wine; let alone a Chianti Classico Riserva. Drink now. Bottle #3778

The 2016 Chianti Classico Argenina is fabulous. Dark cherry, gravel, sage, mint and leather bring out the darker side of Sangiovese in a Chianti Classico that captures all the pedigree of this great vintage. Fallen off a bit since the last time. Heading towards celery seed.

Leathered fruit, damp soil, tomato leaf and dried herb. Can't say I drink a lot of Chianti, but cool to see the lean, tertiary side of it.

Excellent for pasta night

Nicely aged Sangiovese. Integrated tannin, sweet tart fruits, tomato leaf and potting soil.

Exceptional nose to finish. A very expressive Chianti of dark fruit and a long delicate finish.

Intense and spicy in the finish. Burst of flavor in back of mouth and through. However a bit off canter.

Very nice Chianti. Dark dry fruit with a slight well interpreted edge of baked jam.
