Piollot
Colas Robin Brut Nature Champagne Blend
The Colas Robin vineyard was planted with Pinot Blanc in 1955 by Robert Piollot, just up the road from the domaine in Polisot. This was the first standout parcel, with it’s exceptional southeast exposition, red-clay and limestone soil, the resulting Champagne clearly demonstrates why the local name for Pinot Blanc is Pinot Vrai, or real Pinot. Pinot Blanc was never planted in the Marne, so the big houses snubbed the grape from the Aube, and 100% Pinot Blanc cuvées are rare. This is the one of the finest ones out there – a very floral, vibrant wine (that was mentioned in Eric Asimov’s NYT recent article about Pinot Blanc)

Apr 24th, 2020This Pinot Blanc was badass. Some unusual melon character from Champagne. This was the 2013 and had a bit of oxidation but the acid was still enough that this was a broad, well drank champagne. Interesting that the green melon had flecks of chalk. The body was full and continued on the same line as the nose. Thanks Bibi Jis!
