Not bad but nothing spectacular about this wine. I honestly believe that the Penfold’s Koonunga Hill Shiraz/Cab is a superior wine despite its lesser price. We will see how it opens up and I may update my rating.

A bit rough on the edges, but at a quaffer price of 15 bucks ok.

Surprise of the night for me. Somewhat generic but can't deny how well done it is.

First taste of this newer Penfolds release - true to form - quality, value but very much by the book for Penfolds

Dark fruit, chocolate cordial, jammy with olive/iron/something rusty (not rustic)

Apparently they needed shelf space for the 37th version of Ménage à Trois, Sunrise, a breakfast white.

Black fruit with a tinge of stone fruit, oak-driven vanilla, dark chocolate and an edge of mint. Not inspiring, but classic, nonetheless.

This afternoon the wine I have decided to open was a Christmas gift from my parish priest. The 2011 Penfolds Bin 8 Cabernet Sauvignon - Shiraz blend, 62% Cab. Sauv. and 38% Shiraz.

On the nose is dark jammy fruit, black raspberry, black cherry, blueberry, prune, black currant, licorice, violet, lavender and graphite.

On the palate the dark fruit comes through but not jammy, blackberry, black cherry, boysenberry, cranberry, star anise and graphite.

A very silky smooth mouthfeel with medium acidity, medium granular tannins and a pleasingly medium finish.

Have a prosperous and healthy New Year. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷
