Paul Jaboulet Aîné
Les Jumelles Côte-Rôtie Syrah
2019 vintage. A bit more restrained compared to the exuberant 2020, but a great classic Côte Rôtie with complexity and great length. Better to forget it for at least 5 years in the cellar. Abv. 14%.

Nov 11th, 20222020 vintage. Everything is great these days at Jaboulet (négoce wines and estate wines alike) and this Côte Rôtie is no exception. "Les Jumelles" (French for " twins" ) is a blend of Côte Blonde and Côte Brune. It is a terrific effort in a vintage that maintained impressive freshness in a very hot year. A beautiful nose with red and black fruits and flowers. It has depth and elegance, refined tannins and great length. Abv.14%.

Aug 23rd, 2022Dark ruby; supple nose of small black and red berries, lightly fried bacon, pound cake, violets, alkaloids, and some new oak; fresh minty with medium acids on the taste and just so darn good, the balance between power and elegance skewed towards the latter. Dutch cheeses accompanied this twin-wine.

May 6th, 2022Dark reddish amber. Deep color in the center, opaque; clear rims showing its age. Great nose… my wife would say “stinky feet”, something I just call “the funk”. Notes of black cherry, gravel, violets, musty cellar and black pepper. Very much alive in the glass and showing lots of fruit when it hits the mouth. Guesses by the fellas were early 90s La La, and one 78 La La. At first this was very much Cote-Rotie like, but with air it evolved into and out of acting as such. Pretty happy this has held up like it has. (Bday 10 of 12)

Aug 1st, 2021Tasted blind. Amber tawny, not too thin. Northern Rhone nose, very exotic. More specifically you can guess Cote-Rotie on this wine just from the nose. Notes of black fruit, graphite, gravel and what my wife would say is dirty socks. Guessed 89 La Turque, which (looking back) is a complement to how well the 61 performed today.

May 25th, 2020Very approachable. Open slightly soured tangy blue fruit. Very resolved. Lacks some of the interesting secondary notes of more profound Cote rotie but very accessible now

Oct 14th, 2018Red hazy color; large exciting nose of mature red and black berries, meat, flesh, violets, and spices; a little less dramatic on the palate but with a solid age-worthy structure and long finish.

Feb 23rd, 2018Super interesting. Cork was almost disintegrated but fortunately wine wasn’t corked. Wine has smokey almost barbeque-like characteristics. I also get charcoal notes. Not like other northern Rhône’s I’ve had but it’s a lot older than stuff I’ve tried. Wish I was having this with some smoked brisket.
