Patrick Jasmin
la Giroflarie Cote Rotie Syrah
Red plum, some black fruits, tomato, light cocoa, peppery. Rustic, strong red berry acids, salty, a touch of astringency, an evergreen herbal quality. A little bit flat on the finish

Jan 31st, 2021Tasted over two days. This is going to be quite incredible in a few years. Still very primary on day 1 but can’t wait to check back on this one in 5-10 years. Huge potential.

Apr 14th, 2023Opened for 1.5 hours. Peppery and jammy nose, with some mysterious dark fruit. And maybe some basil? Oh my! Full mouth feel, with slight tannins, and nice, long finish. Quite complex. I love the way this wine envelops ones senses in a way that other wines don't. It demands my attention, which it receives. This is supposed to have a little viognier in it, but am not tasting it. Perhaps it's the floral part? Regardless, this is a lovely bottle and well worth the splurge.

May 22nd, 2022Pop and pour yesterday. On the counter unrefrigerated overnight. On the nose: cola, pine needle, blackberry, olive, and a kiss of florality. On the palate: lovely acidity, and thinner on the palate than the nose suggests: olive brine, blackberry...lovely zip and a nice savory/sweet finish with soft tannin.
Ok. This is a Jasmin, and I know it's a crime to open this wine so young: my 05-07s are just starting to really unfurl, but I had to get a taste to see what this cuvee is about. I have no doubt this will improve immensely with age, since the pieces seem to be in place.
