Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course three days. The aromatics were most impressive on Day 1 but the palate found better balance on Day 3. Regardless, an impressive showing throughout. The 2018 “Oléa”, which I understand to be what’s basically a barrel-select of Patrick’s standard Côte-Rôtie, pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with fascinating notes of brambles, lavender, blueberry pie, tarragon, grilled lamb, blood, and granitic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with a lovely, silky texture. Drink now with patience and through 2038. Thanks to @Lyle Fass for the assist!

So awesome. Nose is all granite, florals and deep black and blue fruits. Insane detail and clarity. Wow. Leather and smoke as well. Really detailed leather. Palate is a dream with absurd concentration and juiciness with so much class and refinement. Finishes so mineral and sweet, velvety tannins. Finish is a mile long. Can’t wait to see how this develops tonight. Now after 3 hours it’s so velvety and elegant. Great cut. This is brilliant wine.

@Delectable Wine new cuvee called “Olea.” This is the best casks of Jasmin’s Côte Rotie. 95% Syrah, 5% Viognier. Nose is a bit closed right now with some wood but it blows off and gets insane in 10/15 minutes. This gets a new barrel treatment with a blend of Hungarian and French oak. But under that is dazzling blackberry, raspberry, even cassis and serious granite and rocks. Mint and spice and such a deep minerality and all accented by some sweet oak. Oak is integrating more and more with air. Nose gets almost dizzying. So perfumed. Smokey and meaty with also some gorgeous florals. Impossibly complex. Palate is stunning and this sucker is built to age. Really built to age with unreal depth of fruit and such amazing freshness. Wow. This is so refined and elegant. Amazing fruit purity. More black than red. So so long. This is incredible. To be this massive and so refined is quite a feat. The finish is endless and the freshness is something else. Wow. So so long. Insane concentration never heavy. Almost perfect but surely will be with age.

3 hrs in a wide-bottom decanter before tasting. A **stunning** bottle of Cote Rotie. On the nose: oak influence at first, but a few swirls and and that is overtaken by a heavenly and musky wild strawberry and blackberry perfume, then some citrus blossom, and as the fruit recedes a bit, it blends into a kind of vanilla compote. On the palate, fantastic acidity and hi-toned, while being weightless and simultaneously dense...just dances on the palate with lemon and sweet blackberry, and a soft leathery tang. Wow, this is unbelievable for being this young. While this might shut down, if it doesn't, I can't imagine how this could ever not be compelling.

Wow. One of the best cote roties I’ve ever had. A wine of exquisite detail and perfect balance.

Nose is violet lilac lavender. Blackberry flowers. Perfect integration. So elegant. Not heavy or intrusive despite everything that is going on.

Palate is such soft blackberry fruit. Almost velvety. Internal aromatics are insane. Delicious in an elegant way. More Mont Blanc than chocolate mousse.

Finish is flower extract and soft blackberries clinging to the palate and teeth.

As good as wine gets.
