I admit to a deeply abiding love for Etna Rosso. I’ve rarely met a Nerello Mascalese I didn’t like. But like doesn’t begin to describe my affection, nay, obsession with the single contrada wines of Passopisciaro. Guardiola stole then show last night with its usual forest berries filtered through pulverized rock and the scented with herbs and flowers.

Apr 2nd, 2022Cherries, cinnamon red hot, stewed tomato and a kind of baked earth sensation. The hot Sicilian sun definitely comes through. Tannins still pretty robust up front.

Nose of black cherry and pine straw. On the palate the flavors are the same, with great depth, structure, and length. This has a gravity that goes beyond most any Etna Rosso I’ve tasted. Phenomenal, and has years if not decades ahead of it...

Different Contrada but still 100% Nerello Mascalese. More perfume than the Chappemacine. Still bags of red fruits and minerality nailing the Etna style.

The most structured and complex of the flight. Expresses more grip. Sandalwood, moving toward black fruit, earth, meaty, violets, cocoa, way more mineral core to this. Very juicy and concentrated. Yes please.
