Wow. Nose of baked apple pie, apple phyllo dough. Insane mineral, slate and pure vanilla extract. Slight hint of petrol now with air and as it gets warmer. Palate is so compact, acidic and beguilingly fresh after 22 years. Long with terrific dry extract. Honestly this is young. Let’s see what air does.

This got juicier and more fleshed out on day 2.

My last of a three-pack. Consistent throughout, and a reminder each time to drink more German wines.

I wasn’t yet born when this wine was made, and that always makes a wine fun (even if the wine isn’t great). Out of my three, the cork stuck to this one more than the others. Gorgeous golden yellow in the decanter. Plenty of lychee, golden apple, apricot, honeyed stone fruits aromatically. A wine you’d be perfectly fine smelling over the course of an evening. 8.5ABV. Possesses the quality only aged Riesling can provide of a rich weightlessness. On the sweeter side for Auslese, but not overly so. Still sporting good acidity. Botrytis is easily detected, but it’s so well integrated to the profile of the wine. Not getting better, but hanging in there well (especially with Thai food/Oktoberfest food).

Another Wednesday Wine Committee for the books, this one in honor of a former WWC member, with the wines donates from his cellar by his family. A wonderful tribute. Wines tasted blind as usual.

I called this Alsatian Gewürztraminer due to the sweetness and viscosity of the wine, but German Riesling was my other option. Buttered and baked biscuit with honey, slight petrol, lychee, and apple crisp. Drinking well.

9.4 for this 94. Just when you think the finish is going to fall off it hits you with an acid streak.

My bottle was already compromised, with a cork that fell apart. The wine had turned orange in color. However, the wine was still in acceptable condition, with the nose intact and Riesling flavor present. Nevertheless, the wine was past its expiration, and there was significant flavor from the cork. There were some nice notes of honey, and some fruit flavors, and the wine was only slightly sweet. The acidity was quite low. This would have been a nice bottle if it had been stored properly.

Nice turkey prep helper. Carmel, lemon oil, roasted apricots, lamp oil, hint of B.O., and nutmeg. Viscous with a sweet n sour 2 minute finish. $25. Total steal!

Nice aged Riesling. Strong rubber and petrol nose. Medium+ body, with good acidic backbone. Medium- sweetness and medium body. Fun to drink.
