Walla Walla Merlot
Glass-clinging red purple. Abundant nose of purple plum and roses, adding a bit of graphite when echoed on the full bodied palate. Medium acidity. Fuzzy medium tannins. Finish takes on a dark, charred note but is still noticeably fruity. The definition of Washington (Walla Walla) Cabernet: New World fruit with Old World structure. Enjoy with steaks, grilled meats and vegetables, and American beef stew. Drink now through 2028.

May 26th, 2024Dark hazy reddish purple. Abundant nose of blueberry and black plum cobbler. Medium full palate confirms the nose adding a bit of red apple mid palate and a hint of graphite on the finish. Juicy medium acidity. Medium minus tannins that nonetheless show from entry. Medium dark fruity finish. Inviting Washington Merlot that's on the near end of that bridge between California and Bordeaux. Great with beef stew. Drink now.

Nov 10th, 2022It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here's a nice one from Washington State.
Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity nose of black plums, black cherries, light wood, spices, coffee, dark chocolates, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, light oak, spices, vanilla, licorice, light vegetables, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.
Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a very enjoyable Merlot from Walla Walla Valley. This 6 year old is spicy and tangy. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.
Better after a couple of hours of airtime, but good right out of the bottle too.
Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats, cheeses, and light appetizers.
14.4% alcohol by volume.
89 points.
$32.

Clear garnet. Black cherry cobbler with vanilla creme on the abundant nose and medium-bodied palate. Medium acidity. Medium minus tannins. A bit lighter than I like my Washington Merlots, but with all of the dark fruit that’s expected. A nice accompaniment to beef stew or lighter cuts of beef. Drink now.

Nov 16th, 2020This is a prime example of Walla Walla Merlot, rich and deep with complex cherry, chocolate, and mushroom flavors. Cellar for about two more years to balance out.

Jan 15th, 2018Otis Kenyon Merlot is truly one of the best in WA. Lucious coco, black cherry and a hint of herbs on initial palette. It even lingers a goodwhile, especially for a merlot.

Jun 11th, 2013It's a little bland, but it may be because I had the petit Verdot first. Still dry and loveable. I'd enjoy you on a patio in fall, and reminisce about the summer gone by...

May 9th, 2017Nice aroma. Cherry syrup and toasted nuts. Pretty lush and ripe. Floral.
Had the 2014. Rusty red. Smells like fancy soap and red berry fruits. Bit of sagebrush. Dramatic flavors. Old medicinal tonics and cherry pits. Tar, very dark chocolate, tobacco/tomato leaves and cedar wood. This is a unique, full flavored, tasty red. I’d never guess Merlot, but it sure is a fun wine to sip & ponder.
