O'Shaugnessy Estate
Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Aged beautifully. Exotic pine and mint. Smells of the mountain. Blackberries. Wonderful wine.

Jul 1st, 2023Another fun comparison against the Quilceda Creek, and totally open for business. Classic Howell Mtn cab. Aromatics of baked mixed berry pie, fig, Mexican vanilla, graphite, and a delicate floral note. Fairly integrated on the palate with boysenberries, blueberry compote, dark chocolate, nutmeg and espresso. Delicious right now.

Feb 28th, 2020Very enjoyable Howell mountain cab. Black fruit, deep dark cherry, nice oak/cedar, and a strong tannin backbone to prop it up. I let it decant for an hour and it became more enjoyable in the glass and by the second glass. Let this one age for a few more years and boom!

Jul 16th, 2019Yup. Dark cherry, cedar/incense, mint, and wet slate aromatics. The 4 hour decant while at dinner served it well. Perfect example of a well integrated mountain fruit cab. Wish it was a magnum!

Nov 11th, 2018I just love Howell Mountain wines. Possibly my favorites in all of Cali! This is just starting to enter pop and pour territory, but not quite there just yet. Killer nose of crushed blackberries, graphite, sweet tobacco, with a voluptuous palate. Finish is not quite the tannic monster this was 3-4 years ago. Didn’t get to see this bottle to the end, so I would have loved to see how it evolved.

Mar 15th, 2018On the elegant side for a mountain wine with a lovely smooth texture. Still lots of the tobacco and spices that one would expect. Good for the near term, I think.
