Crazy rich, fun, fresh red raspberry finish...

72H Update:
Nose has fresh raspberries, new leather, over-ripe strawberries, lavender and crushed ripe cherries. Palate has sweet cherries, red currant, faint cedar, faint crushed rock, black/red fruit syrup, most tannins have resolved. A fantastic bottle still, at three days open!

I’m sad I never got to meet Taras Ochotoa of @ochotabarrels (RIP). I’ve enjoyed his wines over the years, including this incredibly fresh and bright and lean rendition of Grenache that is far closer to Cerasuolo than to Châteauneuf. Herbal and sour cherry notes transition to strawberry and red currant sourness tinged with dried herbs and flowers. Angular, prominent acidity and barely any tannins to speak of. A fun, gulpable wine that is great with a slight chill on it. ⁣

Great stuff from a terrific winemaker out of Australia. My favorite bottling from them. 2018 was their best vintage yet.

Perfect wine for International Grenache Day! Been trying to find one of these Ochota Barrels wines in the states and finally found one at a big discount in State College.

Mix of light to medium ruby and garnet red with more garnet on the edges. Lovely and fragrant nose with Asian five spice, cherries, lavender and a little prosciutto. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. Nice level of cherries on the palate with some forest notes, a little bit of gravel and savory characteristics. Even a touch blue near the finish. Long and dry finish. Drink till 2020.

Floral, perfumed and youthful, drinks very similar to a young Pinot Noir, red roses, red currant, sweet red raspberries and hints of spices on the finish.
