Have you tasted the latest release (2022) Semillon from @mosswood yet?

I was kindly sent a bottle to taste recently (thank you!) and it went down a treat and very speedily by Mr Spittoon and myself 😜

The 2021-22 growing season was near on perfect plus the team used a new technique, ‘flotation’ when producing this wine. I’d highly recommend heading over to their website to read more about it.

In true Sem style, it was made entirely in stainless steal tanks (no oak). If you have the patience, pop it in the cellar for the next 20 years for a deliciously complex Sem!

So here are my notes:

Pale yellow shade in the glass with flecks of green. On the nose there’s plentiful juicy fig, a hint of lanolin and some lemon zest. In the mouth it’s more on the savoury side of things I find yet juicy and rounded. A good amount of body and acidity to it with more figs, citrus and apple crunch coming though 😋

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy.

Who else loves a straight Semillon?

Thank you Moss Wood for sending over this sample of your 2021 Sem to taste.

The fruit was hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed. I really enjoyed it however I reckon if you can give it 10-20 years in the cellar (or maybe even more) then you’ll definitely be rewarded 😉

In the glass it’s a pale yellow-green shade. On the nose it’s a bit floral, a bit grassy and a bit citrusy with hints of fresh figs and lanolin. In the mouth it’s super flavoursome with peaches/nectarine/stonefruit, more fig and citrus peel. Clean, juicy and moreish.

10 years old, but drinking in its prime. Lots of steely minerality, ripe apple, pear and melon flavors. Oily, touches of hazelnut, wool, crushed rocks and damp barrels. Yum.
