I have really enjoyed this wine in the past but this vintage entirely misses the mark. While always aged in loads of oak, the alcohol has crept up in past vintages and stands at a walloping 15.4% abv. in 2019. Unfortunately there just isn’t any balance. Alcohol stands out from the nose to the burning chest. Pretty disappointing at $65 a bottle.

Outstanding. Not shy at 14.8% alc. and 14 months in French Oak but somehow it toes the line of delicacy. Clean, powerful, and long. Fragrant berries, savory spice, and invigorating acidity. Luxury.

Founded in 1988 by Dave Miner, president of Oakville Ranch Vineyards, along with his wife Emily and his parents, Ed and Norma. Gorgeous light Ruby on the pour, ample red fruit aromas with oaky spice notes. Palate has big cherry and sweet red plum flavors, cacao and cinnamon spice with balanced oak. Rich full soft tannins lingering finish ending with herb character. Very Nice! Went well with a Halibut Livornese.

Founded in 1988 by Dave Miner, along with his wife Emily and his parents, Ed and Norma. Aged for 15 months on French oak (60% new), from a 50-acre vineyard planted in 1995 by Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni along the terraces of the Santa Lucia mountains. Aromas of fresh dark berry fruit and wonderful baking spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, cranberry and cola with toasty notes, well balanced. Fine tannins on lingering finish ending with a burst of fruit. Very nice.

Underripe berries, rhubarb, clove, and a touch of passion fruit. Very light bodied in the glass with more weight on the palate where the oak comes through. Fine tannins keep this wine really interesting. Complex and layered.

Founded in 1988 by Dave Miner along with his wife Emily and his parents, Ed and Norma, producing small lot, handcrafted wines. Fruit from a 50 acre vineyard was planted in 1995 along the terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range, overlooking the Salinas River Valley. Light Ruby with aromas of red fruits and spice. On the palate cherry, raspberry with smoky oak flavors. Rich tannins are well balanced on a lingering finish ending with soft earthy mineral tones.

Pale garnet red with lots of bricking. Aged Pinot nose, perfumed fruit, roses, candied and dried cherries, sweet spices and a little compost. Air added some baking spices too. Love the complexity of the nose. Sweet cherry palate with moderate acidity (5/10). Medium bodied with a long finish. Wel integrated and structured. Definitely needed the hour of breathe and brushed off the over sweetness. Shows that California Pinot Noir can age. Drink till 2018. (91+)
