Les P'tits Bouts Cornas Syrah
Cornas, Northern Rhône, Rhône, France

Awesome nose. Wild herbs, blackberry fruit and some red fruits as well. A chord progression. Dripping with blood and game. So meaty. So feral. Texture is like silk. Sweet fruit and so much energy. Juicy like nothing else and just explosive. Unreal granite on the finish. So fine. Really great. Let’s see what air does. Slate like tannins. Great structure and grip. Just terrific!

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days and consistent throughout. The 2022 “Les p’tits bouts” pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium viscosity and moderate staining of the tears. On the nose the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart fruit. Initially reductive and primary but after an hour, the nose became a stunning bouquet of fresh ripe blackberries, blueberries, an entire field of lavender, bacon fat, dried green herbs and some gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. The finish is long. Beautifully fresh at this stage. Drink now and through 2037.

The new kid on the block. Wow. What a nose. Stunning. Sick. The whole cluster and no new wood shows. Smells like classic stuff. Blackberry, cassis, smoke, leather, blueberry, big berry, lavender, so so floral, really really pungent and detailed. Mint, brown sugar and shows ripeness but also insane complexity. Palate is at once round and exhibits huge finesse but also shows super ripe fruit and stunning purity. Superb refinement and precision. This is so beautiful. Such fine tannins. This has the extra that makes it a top Cornas.

Popped and poured and heavens to Betsy, the nose is sizzling with energy! The 2018 “Les p’tits bouts” pours a deep garnet with some violet color tones too. A near opaque core with some moderate staining of the tears. Medium+ viscosity. The nose is wild with blackberries, blueberries, deli case, black pepper, olive tapenade, violets, earth, and herbs. The palate is consistent with the nose. The finish is long; well over a minute. Tannin is medium++ and acid is medium+. This is a remarkably precocious Cornas with easy comparisons to Allemand and Clape. I expect a fabulous future for this wine and if this vintage is representative of Mickaël Bourg’s work, this is a producer well onto my radar.

Like @Lyle Fass said, completely insane! Absolutely perfect nose. Palate is not far behind. Blown away.
