Freakshow Lodi Zinfandel

This wine is Rick James bitch... super freak.

Unfortunately, it’s not super good.

Sweet... yet tart. At least the bottle looked cool.

It tastes like the label. So clowns, and bearded ladies, and invisible men, bears, trapeze artists, fire breathers and sword swallowers. Not my jam. Tastes like jam too.

I don’t usually drink Zinfandel but I do like Michael David wine. Lots of oakiness and tannins, has a nice long finish. (Time to trim some palm fronds tomorrow 🥴)

There isn’t a varietal Michael David doesn’t dominate. While this Zin isn’t the spiciest I’ve had it sure packs a hell of a burst of flavour on the palate. I drank it as fast as a beer it was so good. Next bottle I’ll slow down. Promise.

Consumed 02/2021. In the past I have tried something else from Freakshow and did not care for it. But don’t remember what it was. I would try this again.

Lots of fruit without being jammy, lots of alcohol (15.0%) without tasting hot. A really nice dinner wine.

Greg says would be good with a nice, spicy pizza!

Big heavy ripe dark fruit on nose. Overripe strawberry and raspberry. Dark fruit on the tongue with a lingering essence of molasses. Light tannins that squeeze the tongue and not the gums. Maybe a hind of baking cocoa.

Yum! Smooth and juicy with a hint of tobacco. Delicious.
