Matthiasson’s Napa white is one of my favorite CA wines but don’t sleep on the red. Predominantly merlot Bdx blend, elegant and finessed, purple berries and cassis, violets, black tea, cedar and cocoa. Just entering peak drinking IMO

This tastes like a blend in a good way, offering both tangy sweet red and brooding darker fruit tones, chocolate, tea, olive and underbrush. A very complete Merlot-dominant bdx blend

Happy birthday to wifey! Old school Napa. Red and blue fruits, olives, black tea, rosemary, thyme, leather. Elegant, restrained, delicious.

Happiness is a warm gun mama. Or in this case a pair of ruby shears, berry, earthy, and ever-so-slightly herbal.

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Black cherry, cassis, bell pepper, tobacco, violets, vanilla and clove.

10' Matthiasson Red Blend . When I visited the old farmhouse a few years back I wrote down the blend...55% Merlot 35% CB & the rest of it? A rare sighting these days of 13.1% ALC.
After trying this wine a few years back, I thought it needed a bit of time.
I decanted for two hours . Color-Dark red brick. Nose- Black olives, violets. Palate- Wow this is nothing like I remembered it. Ripe black fruits(cherries, black plums). Black tea, dark chocolate, mint, herbs. All these flavors with a supple punch to it. There's no need to wait that much longer before drinking this . Very enjoyable bottle.

Love this. Mostly merlot, followed by all the classic Bordeaux varietals. Excellent wine.

Power, elegance, restraint. California at its best.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm still battling a head cold so my tasting powers are sub-optimal...having said that, I liked the restraint, balance and texture of this wine. Should age gracefully.
