Massimo Rattalino
Novantadue 92 Monvigliero Nebbiolo

@Delectable Wine this is Novantadue92 Monvigliero. Thanks!
Debut Monvig from Rattalino and it’s a knockout. Heavenly nose. Ripe, complex, sour cherries, high toned, perfumed. Mixture of dried and fresh roses and insane glorious spice. Dizzying. The greatness of Monvigliero shines through. 9.6.nose. Palate is just velvet. So concentrated and ethereal. Big tannins and just perfect balance. So elegant. A big wine but a total masterpiece. Plum, red and black cherries dominate. After some time it closes down but the finish lasts forever. Imprints on your palate. 9.4 for now but I see upside here.

Pop and pour. Notes from 24 hrs open (unrefrigerated on the counter overnight). On the nose: very hi-toned, loads of blood orange, sour pomegranate, soft medicinal herbs. Very primary. On the palate, a touch astringent, lovely acid, more blood orange, soft tar and dried cherry. Grainy and palate-coating tannin on the finish. Beyond being very young, this wine evidently needs the right food pairing: it was far too cerebral on its own. As a nebbiolo: lovely, a monvigliero leaning mountain nebbiolo. Barolo with a Bramaterra vibe?
