Masseria Altemura
Sasseo Salento Primitivo
A very impressive full bodied Italian red - ruby / dark red fruit bouquet and notes with a hint of vanilla notes at the finish. Outstandingly good!

Derived from the Italian word sasso, meaning stone, referring to the abundance of limestone in the area, which creates a reflective quality in the vineyards. Dark Ruby with big berry aromas and earthy spice. On the palate blackberry with notes of cacao, dry tannins, noted acidity on medium finish. Ok for price but needs big food dish, like pasta. Tasting Sample.

My local club, The Downs Club, is doing takeaways on Wednesday and Friday nights these days. Hope they do it more often on the quality of the Chicken Cacciatore we had tonight. Went into my Wine App - Personal Wine Curator and was surprised that Primitivo was a good match - and so it was. Barb loved it. Excellent meal, excellent wine.

Not as full bodied and sweet as some Primitivos I have had. @Jeff Savigny gave me this idea where he recently matched a Pizza with Zinfandel so I thought I would do the same with Primitivo from Puglia in Italy, which is the same grape. It was a great match with homemade Pizza. The wine giving a tarry earthy undertow throughout. POSTSCRIPT Points off for a ridiculously heavy bottle. You could do Curls with the empty bottle.

Smooth wild berry, easy acidity and mold tannin.
Had with jalepeno flank steak and it held up nicely.

Quite light. A little peppery. Medium length. May do better with more age.
