A nice and fruit forward Rhône blend from California.
Showing red and black fruits with earth notes chocolates, tobacco, vegetables pencil lead and peppercorn.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and nice legs.
A little bitter on the ending once it opens up.
Good right out of the bottle and gets earthier as it opens up.

The 2015 Flux, Mark Herold's entry-level red , is bold, juicy and inviting. Super-ripe red cherry, rose petal, mint and spice are all pushed forward in this racy, succulent wine. Dollops of Mourvèdre and Syrah round out the blend. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2018) $24

Hmm.. I'm torn. Don't get me wrong - I like it, it's just not what I remembered. This year's rendition of Mark Herold's Flux is 84% Grenache with a dash of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The nose is great with high toned fresh raspberries and crushed rose, baking spice and olive brine. The palate is really bright with loads of high-toned fruit, very pretty acid, and medium body weight. It's a vibrant and playful wine to be sure, with a beguiling nose.. it's just not the serious wine that I've enjoyed in the past couple of vintages.

Jan 6th, 2018The Delectable description of this wine says “Grenache Blend,” but this is 100% Grenache. Decadent nose has intense, rich, mulled raspberry juice shot through with baking spice and warm sandstone minerality and roasted green herbs. Intensely flavored, with a a large scale initial wallop of fruit that quickly turns savory and peppery, with the fruit making a reprise on the fairly long finish. Lowish acids. With slightly less peppery heat (it’s 15.3%) and higher acidity, this would have been a superstar, but still, right now, it’s very satisfying.

Jun 4th, 2017Similar body style to a typical North Coast Pinot Noir. Strawberry, Bing cherry, black tea, cocoa powder, and forest floor. Despite it being a GSM blend (heavy on the Grenache at 68%), this will have more appeal as an alternative for Pinot Noir fans than it will for Rhone buffs.
