Breton Stellenbosch Cabernet Franc
This definitely has more in common with Loire Cab Franc than Bordeaux Cab Franc. Black cherry and a hint of machine oil, with a very slight vegetal note on the nose. The palate is open and velvety soft. You have to concentrate to discern a little super-fine-grained tannin submerged in the fruit. Speaking of fruit, there’s Loire-like, barely ripe black cherry. Eminently gulpable. Would be a great backyard burger wine.

Jan 27th, 2024Wow, blind I'd say I was in Chinon. Funny enough how I was selling in Cabernet franc this week from Italy that similarly had a lot of Chinon traits as well, though this wine was more linear and less dense. Lots of sweet bell pepper and light cherry fruits, good density, moderate length that was med/med+. Great now and has probably 5-7 years or maybe more.

Nov 19th, 2022My, is this gorgeous. Reads very much like a Chinon on the nose and makes an excellent case for the variety in Stellenbosch. But as intellectually satisfying as it is, it’s a sheer pleasure to drink.

Oct 23rd, 2019Medium ruby centre , quite wide light pink ruby rim . Quite expressive nose with blackcurrant , iris , roasted red peppers and earthy tobacco notes . On the palate quite rounded and juicy, medium bodied , with those blackcurrant , blackberry and earthy , dark chocolate notes coming through , quite fresh acidity, fine but very slightly bitter tannins and balanced alcohol. Medium minus length with tobacco tinged finish . Drink now and over the next 5-7 years to preserve as much of fresh fruit character as possible .

Jul 15th, 2024Funk at first, deep nose, rhubarb, dark cherry, leather, red moss? The nose is deceptively deep at first, but the wine isn’t heavy, it’s meaty on the palate, slightly chewy, dark fruits and savory notes. Chinon in Stellenbosch.
Excellent vino.
Only seven barrels. Put up in “ old French oak”. Very interesting. I bet some more more time would help with the pronounced drying.
Thanks@Garagiste
