Lucien Crochet
Cuvée La Croix du Roy Sancerre Pinot Noir

Ruby color with aromas of ripe black fruits and some floral and earthy notes, aged 22 months in stainless and oak. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry with vanilla spice. Fine tannins, vivid acidity, nice balance ending with oak and earthy mineral spice. Good now!

Brought a bottle of this to a backyard cookout 2 weeks ago but there was so much lighter fluid and charcoal smoke I have zero idea what it smelled or tasted like. Luckily, I have another bottle and no smoke tonight! A fairly saturated color for a Loire Pinot, and the nose is deeply fruity. Loads of smoky, flinty, underbrushy, slightly resinous notes too. Lovely! On the palate, it’s fairly low-toned, with bass-note dark cherry and berry fruit. Lots of limestoney minerality. Acids a tad on the lower side for this AOC, but delicious and deep.

I have a thing for Pinot Noir (whether red or rose) from Sancerre. They’re delicious in the summer. This one has intense limestone-infused dark cherry fruit, and a little sousbois in the nose. Focused and fairly concentrated in the mouth, it’s got low-toned dark cherry fruit that quickly turns dry, savory, a teensy bit herbal and quite minerally in the mouth. Some tannin left that softly coats the palate as the finish proceeds. Love it.

Jul 24th, 2023A bit strong at first sip, better when allowed to air for a bit. Nice smooth red with a raspberry bouquet and a charcoal finish. Light enough to pair with chicken and cheese yet rich enough to pair with an after dinner chocolate.

Dec 31st, 2023Drank 5/12/23 at Aragosta, super light pinot noir meant to pair with the second half of the menu. Great quality, but maybe too light for duck.
