Louis Barruol
La Pierrelle Hermitage Syrah
Dark cherry and a brooding deep palate. Hints of licorice, some leather. It’s ripe and intense. Long too. Good.

Apr 13th, 2020The granite hillside of Hermitage becomes a force only because of the vignerons letting the place speak for itself. Louis Barruol has 30-50 year old Syrah vines that are in their prime. About 90% of the fruit is destemmed and no new oak is used to age the wine. The 2011 is just hitting stride. That vintage produced wines that are certainly age-worthy, but ready to drink earlier than say a classic like 2010. Plenty of fruit here; black currant, blackberry, citrus oil, along with dark chocolate, black pepper, savory herbs and violets. I'd drink this this through 2026 (if I had any more). Tastes much juicier than the 13% ABV.
