Napa Valley Syrah

A exploration of nine 1999 Cote Rotie - Syrahs and Shiraz on their 25th anniversary. The Lewis was the group’s favorite, although I ranked it lower.

Stand with my prior assumption that this would be interesting in a few years, definitely drinking a lot better right now. Dark purplish red. Intense and jammy nose with layers of bacon, purple flowers, plums and white pepper. A touch of heat on the palate with medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus body. Rich mix of dark berries and caramel on the palate. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2027.

Not in any danger of going over the hill. Still generous with fruit, but developing a savory edge. Great Napa Syrah.

Black in color and just powerful. Absolutely loved this. One of my favorite napa syrah's ive ever had.

Still full of life and big fruit flavor. Hard to believe it was 8 years old.

Blind Tasting MOT=90
Color: Purpleish red
Nose: Smoky and sweet cherries
Palate: Very very very very extracted, solid tannins, knew it was a napa syrah straight away.
Opinion: would be very interesting in a few years

Big Syrah - more drinkable than in past - milk chocolate, dark cherries and mulling spices come to mind

Seems this may remain in suspended animation until a moment comes where it spontaneously falls apart. Could be tomorrow, could be 10 more years. A time capsule... Sound and well made but with little appeal.
