Lewis Cellars
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Big blueberry jam, outsized like so many ‘08s. Elegance battles the power, power winning for now.

This still tastes fairly young. In comparison to the ‘03 Reserve I opened in May, this isn’t as complex, but it’s just as young. Prune, black licorice and blackberries. Tannins are mostly integrated so the palate is incredibly smooth. Front and back palate aren’t as full as the mid-palate where the fruit is still dominant. No rush to open.

Barrel room in my face. Tons of vanilla extract, toasted notes and mocha coffee. Highly concentrated black and red fruits. Yes, it’s very oaky maybe a little overwhelmed but it’s balanced and delicious on the palate. Welcome to Napa.

Oct 13th, 2017Sweet tobacco spice cherry liqueur very ripe and forward mocha and sweet oak still showing dark spices. Wow an explosion of sweet cherry and currant berry fruit with no hard edges, sweet toasty oak spice and quite fresh on the finish. Finish 50+ most excellent

Good balance and enjoyable but didn't distinguish for me.

Opaque dark purple with a darker ruby rim than you'd expect. Expressive nose of candied and lacquered red and black fruits, sweet earth, tobacco and beautifully rich oak. The palate is where it displays it's grape. Full tannins (even at 5 years old) with the pyrazines subtly dancing in the background of the oak.
The wine is a wonderfully balanced experience that is both forward in what it wants to show you and coy and demure with its secondary aromas and flavors.
