Leognan
Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan
2014 vintage. This estate is extremely reliable and while it has a long track record of excellence, it has been shining even more under the reign of Olivier Bernard. Definitely among the best wines of the vintage, it features a complex nose with black fruits (blackberries, black cherries, cassis), intertwined with spices, a subtle smokiness and some floral hints. While it may not be as profound as the incredible 2015 and 2016 Domaine de Chevalier, this is an excellent wine in its own right and seriously good value at this quality level. Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) dominates the blend, combined with 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Layers of dark fruit, fresh acidity, combined with classic Pessac-Léognan spiciness and a ripe tannic backbone. Terrific length too. Highly recommended. Abv. 13,5%.

Jul 1st, 20222015 vintage. The white Domaine de Chevalier is one of the greatest Bordeaux whites, and this 2015 is no exception. The secret lies in the terroir and the extreme selection of grapes, returning 4 to 5 times to the same vine in order to harvest only perfect grapes. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Purity, complexity, perfect balanced and terrific length. Not cheap at around 120 euros, but well worth seeking out if you can afford it. Moreover these wines age beautifully for decades.

Feb 17th, 2021Domaine is located in a clearing in the middle of a forest that protects the vines from extremes of temprature. Aromas of black fruits and spice. Palate displays full ripe fruits, blackberries, cherries and berries, with a tight tannin structure, nice balance and mouthfeel. The long finish showed some mineral notes on the end. Drinkable now, but a few more years in the cellar is ok.

Loved it. Tannins completely integrated, silky. Fruit forward. Lip smacking good. Exceeded my expectations and plan to restock.

Marvelous #structure #aromas of #blackberries and #cassis #charred oak. The berry bush in the most subtle and elegant way. Pleasantly surprised by this wine. I believe it has great aging potential. Great now and will be smooth and more complex in the future.
