Le Clos du Beau Père
Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend
Pomerol, Libournais, Bordeaux, France

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Red fruits with chocolate notes on the nose, and medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with sweet raspberries, cherries, red currants, coffee, earth, light wood, spices, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, light black pepper, herbs and black tea.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
This 8 year old Merlot from Pomerol is drinking beautifully now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Elegant and fruity. Complex and entertaining.
Delicious right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. A great sipping wine, that will pair nicely with food too.
A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 22 months in all new French oak barrels.
15% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$60.

Slight nose of dark berries, soil. Taste architecture like a bell curve; soft nothing up feont followed by Cassius, tart red berry that is not overpowering (almost blunted) and then a paradoxical combination of firm tannins on sides of tongue with softening of the fruit. At first i didnt like but it grew on me as the bottle moves towards empty. So as it goes....

Shows it’s thunevin-ousness - sweet sappy fruit, generous oak, warm finish, ripe and heady. For fans of the style

May 10th, 2019Really nice and surprisingly bright for a wine of it's type, still has nice plush fruit and soft tannins but also has elegance and clarity, it leans towards being light on the palate in a nice way

Dec 14th, 2025Quite pronounced tannins, but still smooth. Given I had the 2012, the price point is a bit high for the taste. That said with Turkey is was very plesant.

Oct 13th, 2024A split rating between Lesley and Harry. Light tannins but slightly peppery very smooth across the palette…yummy! Especially sitting next to the Raspberry patch and eating my best burgers ever and broccoli harvested moments before cooking. TBD - s’mores are next on the agenda. Wish you were here!!

Super beau au nez qui est très classique mais surtout en bouche, soyeux avec une texture riche mais fine en même temps, non dénué de fraîcheur, belle longueur, prix raisonnable pour un Pomerol et qu’on peut apprécier maintenant. 92-93
Very nice classic nose but the palate is even better, silky and fresh texture, finesse and class with still some power and good, potential, nice length as well. Reasonably priced Pomerol that can be enjoyed now also.

Dark fruit, a touch oaky still but still a medium bodied wine, fruit forward with tannins that have a nice texture and some richness to the palate. Very nice QPR.
Fruits noirs, mures, boisé pas tout à fait digéré mais une bouche de corps moyen assez avenante avec un beau fruité assez riche, bouche savoureuse avec des tannins qui ont une belle texture. Très bien pour le prix. 89-90

Tar, hay, earth, leather, a bit of black currant and blue berry. Quite a pomerol classic to be honest. The palate is well done with lots of acid, a good bright fruit, some earthy stickiness/thickness ok the sides, some slightly drying tannins, and a great earthy, fruity, typical pomerol finish. Good not great but providing some satisfaction in its state ;)

Dec 24th, 2019Fantastic nose and wonderful and balanced high notes and fruit finish which goes on longer and longer as it matures in the glass.
Still lacks some power in the fruit, with which I would give a higher score. Nonetheless, Thuenvin has definitely arrived in Pomerol.
