On opening - this thing is pretty tight. Not much fruit, loads of cedar, tobacco, graphite and black pepper. Some raspberry and plum starting to develop. Finish is big pepper spice. Would be great with an arrabiata dish!

A relaxed meal before Thanksgiving kicks off in earnest. Marcella hazan’s simple tomato sauce with butter and onions over some good tagliatelle, some broccoli raab, and sausage. Perfect pairing. Gave it a 1.5 hour decant which was the right call. Definitely a bit of “rustic” tannins but the fruit is quite open and giving and the finish is pure with good acid. At $27, quite a good value.

Had a bottle at Rosso Rubino in Montepulciano!!! This was excellent!!! Especially considering it’s not a Riserva. Aromas of dark cherry, tobacco, and earth. Very smooth with a long finish. Highly recommend Rubino Rosso for dinner. We ate there twice during our stay and both experiences were perfect.
