Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin
Montmains Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay
Chablis, Burgundy, France

Time to open one of these 2017’s.
This very pleasant. Nicely Rounded out with 7 yrs or so in bottle.
The mouthfeel shows nice viscosity. It is round & a little waxy. Shows beautiful honeysuckle notes, golden apple, Meyer lemon, light lime juice, not quite pineapple syrup, green apple is late to the party, pink grapefruit w/ a light sprinkle of sugar, mango, some green melon, marmalade fruits quality-orange peel, yellow peaches, dryish apricots, warm caramel, dry chalk-limestone powder, fine grain, grey volcanic minerals, saline, soft flintiness, hints of white pepper, sea fossils, light saline, warm, well done toast, white flowered, yellow lilies, excellent acidity with a round, lush, well balanced, elegant finish that lasts two-minutes and lands on beautiful minerals.
Really excellent with the Jasper Hill Farms Champagne Washed Harbison. Limited release. Might be the best pair w/ this cheese to date.

The 2021 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru, aged in 40% used oak, has a linear, slightly chalky bouquet that unfolds in the glass, a subtle mintiness coming through with aeration. The palate is textural and beautifully balanced, with finely-pitched acidity and slightly honeyed towards the finish, displaying seamlessly integrated oak. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2023)

Hits all the right buttons. Racy mouth watering acid, with lemon peel, seashell and biscuit notes. Hard to imagine a better example of 1er Cru at this price.

The 2017 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru is clean, racy and super precise. Chalk, white flowers, mint and white pepper all confer brightness to this energetic, brisk taut Chablis. In the glass, the Montmains is so attractive and translucent. Orchard fruit and sweet floral notes linger on the close. Readers who want to see the elegance of 2017 will find plenty of that here. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2020)

Still a bit too young but lovely citrus notes, lemon cream, slight chalk and hazelnut skin.

Subtle, leesy, mineral, and contained. More floral notes and ripe citrus opened up to a clean and nuanced Chablis with classic chalk and saline finish. A little elusive but very charming and fun

Textbook! Unique Chablis earthy minerality exudes marine chalkiness, flint, chicken broth, and bright lemon-oil tinged fruit. Intense flavors glide effortlessly (as if on a mag-lev track) across the palate. Intensely stony and pure and long. Still youthful. Really classy.
