Vieilles Vignes Beaujolais-Villages Gamay

Dark violet. Spice-tinged red and dark berries, licorice and a hint of smokiness on the pungent nose and in the mouth. Broad and chewy in texture, showing good heft and a floral quality that emerges with air. The smoky note comes back strong on the long, youthfully tannic finish, which leaves a suggestion of bitter cherry behind. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, August 2021)

Consistently good! And good for the price ~$24

For a villages, packs some serious wallop, like a bad ol Cru. So for about 17/18$ you get a Cru Bojo like, very forward leaning, sharply delineated, gorgeously strawberry & raspberry fruited Villages. Decent concentration. Some Brett in there too

Rhubarb, beetroot and sap. Nicely spicy, round and juicy. Precise and honest; not trying too hard. Previous Lapalu wines I’ve had seemed overly tannic and disjointed, but this one’s a beauty.

Fresh strawberry, VA, and green bananas. Moderate plus acidity and moderate tannins.

Fresh, vibrant, elegant, and delicious without being simple this Beaujolais Village carries its 14,5%ABV well.
