Jean-Claude Lapalu
La Croix des Rameaux Brouilly Gamay

Mr. Ed makes an appearance right out of the gates. But there is also mineral. Deep red cherries. Lipstick like intensity. Mint, menthol. Really wafting stuff. The horse blends and just becomes a component of a dizzying array of aromas. Lapalu always a thrill. Palate is rich and vibrant with tangy freshness and loads of early season cherry and good acids. Ripe and substantial tannins. Closed a bit on the very long and mineral driven finish. A nice hit of opulence as well. Crazy raw materials here but as this is Lapalu this will need hours to come together. But it’s all there.

In a great place. Voluptuous nose. Deep cherry, some earth, some feral, so alluring, huge mint and menthol, so so deep. What a nose. A knockout. Palate is so juicy and energetic. Deep and luscious with insane freshness and zowie purity. Clean and palate staining with atrocious length. Bravo.

Beaujolais on steroids. This is an unbelievably rich Beaujolais. Hard as nails now, give it 10.

Not a generous bottle. Reduced and not very expressive. Concentrated and rich material, but not giving it up tonight even with decant.

Feb 21st, 2016Called Beaujolais, but thought Morgon. Can definitely use some air to let reductiin/bret/naturalness chill out. Had after cake, so my palate was screwed up.
