Isole e Olena
Cepparello Toscana Sangiovese
Previous tasting note was nearly 9 years ago in December 2015. The wine now shows menthol, mint and a little tar. Medium weight, earthy and very Tuscan in my experience. Dry fine savoury tannins. Galloni gave this 96+ points and said when first reviewed “it should be a gem in another 5 to 10 years “ and I can advise it is singing at 14 years of age but could still go on for at least another 5 years. Next night - very silty, earthy and savoury. M+ intensity. Could not be anything but Sangiovese from Tuscany.

Jul 29th, 2024Stellar. It took a solid hour to blow off the funk. It's ruby red in color with orange blending into the edge. Cranberry, white pepper, potting soil on the nose. Mouthfeel is dry, silky smooth and spherical. Alcohol medium plus but without heat. Acidity is absolutely perfect here at medium. Tannins are already pleasantly dry. This will improve, but it will be tough to keep my hands off my other 2 bottles.

Oct 28th, 2023Pure and driven. One of the few wines that balances newer oak with Sangio and not dominating it.

Jan 23rd, 2023No. 2 wine at the Downs Club Super Tuscan evening last Friday. From magnum. No detailed notes. 100% Sangiovese. Made in the modern style with Oak showing. Ramon our host and importer said this will give the wine better longevity. Red fruited. Personally would like to see less Oak influence . A combination of French Barriques and large Hungarian Oak Bottis.

Mar 19th, 2021This Sangiovese was complex yet explosive and compact - did not like it at first as needed air but got better and opened up as it still a baby - rest them for five years and drink over the next 40 years - not a fruit bomb like I thought but a dancer of tastes and smells - WE gave it 96 and I can see why

Dec 1st, 2019Wednesday Wine Committee. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind as usual.
I had this about 6months ago and notes were similar. Main difference here is this initially smelled like it had American oak influence. Tar, Rose petal, and underripe black cherry. Because of my initial thoughts, I called this Rioja. Nice.
