Réserve des Célestins Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

Great lunch. The coche’s were subserb, the bonneau was limit.

Deep plum, spectacular black cherry and garrigue. Rope but balanced and intense and round. Long and delicious.

From the great Henri Bonneau, along with Château Rayas, the master of CDP. (He and Jacques Reynaud were actually dear friends). It’s insanely expressive and its ultra intense aromatics leap from the glass.

The complex bouquet is layered with rich black and red fruit, leather saddle, wilted violets and savory herbs. It just floats on the palate with its supreme elegance, caressing texture and weightless intensity. So Burgundian in that sense. The finish is so long, lifted and intense, leaving you craving another sip when its flavors finally do dissipate. 04 Célestins is a total knockout.

The masculin chateauneuf, surmature for sure, almost madera like. Great

This was thoroughly enjoyed with lovely bottles side by side but it flaunted an additional level of vitality than its peers. So much personality too - 2005

Bob Parker introduced me to this wine many years ago. Still mesmerizing and hauntingly beautiful in every way. Soaring in the glass, with tremendous complexity and tons of personality. (This is the 2001). Glad I have some left! So great to drink this with the Vinous team last week.

Balanced and dense; red and black fruit, baking spices.

The nose on this is simply incredible. Exotic spiced plums with a strong black pepper note. Full bodied and showing the vintage, but in all the best ways. The plum & dark berry notes dance across the palate with silky, textured tannins which add haunting complexity. Absolutely beautiful.
