Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Nothing like drinking wine at its origin!

Crunchy red cherries, red currants, black pepper, smoke, cigar box, mushroom, tea leaves, oregano, red flowers, a mix of baking spices and mints. long finish. high acidity, high levels of fine/smooth tannins. Compared to 2015/2016, 2013's fruit appears more blue - blueberry? more mineraly and chalky on the palate. 3 years in new French oak, 1.5-2 years in bottle. Organic biodynamic: 501 cow horn prep, 508 prep, native yeasts, cover cops - chamomile, muster green, no fertiliser, dry farm mostly with drip irrigation as backup. wine turbines in the vineyard to prevent mildew.

This vineyard has been part of the Heitz estate since 1966, when an agreement was made with Tom May to source fruit from May’s small Oakville Vineyard, one of their three single vineyard 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged first for a year in neutral oak, then aged for 3 years in 100% new French Limousin oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits and spice box with mint and eucalyptus notes. On the palate, currant and blackberry flavors with citrus, cinnamon and fig, well integrated, fresh acidity. Full-body, fine tight tannins, long finish, elegant, balanced ending with leather and earthy herb character. Let this age a bit! Outstanding! Tasting Sample!

Martha’s minty herbaceousness shine through once again in this epic vintage. Lean with a bright acidity, it tastes of aloe, eucalyptus, red currants, and raspberry liqueur.

Not a bad way to kick off my first trip to Napa. Was worth the decades I’ve been waiting to have this wine.

Again. Some Napa cab done with old world flair. The acidity should carry it through for decades.

Classic napa ‘13 .. dry , big , very distinct

Ok this is what I’m talking about. The famous Martha’s eucalyptus is just showing itself. This bottling still has so much life ahead with really fine texture and tannins. A treat.

Very fresh, vibrant nose like a sheer veil. Lively blackberry, dark stone fruit, plum notes.

Probably too good for a VP debate but so what. Interesting times.
