Heitz Cellar
Lot C-91 Cabernet Sauvignon

Truncated cookout notes. Damn this is spectacular. The flavor density and balance is so old school. The nose is ethereal. None of that 15% alc. chocolately bullshit that now seems to permeate Napa Cab orthodoxy.
UPDATE: Next morning, the wine long gone, I’m sitting here watching college football highlights from yesterday still thinking about how much I liked this. There’s usually only one wine per year that has that effect on me.

Originally a blend of single vineyards, including 50% out of Martha's Vineyard. Deep Ruby, aromas of berry fruits, earthy oak & floral spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with hints of cacao, licorice and leather. Fine dusty tannins, good acidity, well balanced, ending with fruit and savory earthy mineral notes. Nice! Grab a Filet Mignon!

History began in 1969 when the only vintage from this legendary lot was ever produced—is a wine of outstanding authenticity tying the past to the present. Fine dusty tannins, good acidity, well balanced, ending with fruit, floral and earthy mineral notes. Nice! Grab a NY Strip!

Originally a blend of single vineyards, including 50% out of Martha's Vineyard, the 2017 Lot C-91 is for borderline lots that don't quite make the single-vineyard bottlings. Dark and brooding. Tobacco, garrigue, inkyness. A touch of tar and power. Amazing given its age. Very good- crazy intensity. Jef ROPP

This is an elegant Napa Cabernet - ripe, medium plus tannins give it great texture, loads of black currant, blackberry, black cherry and plum fruit with a racy hint of bay leaf and vanilla in the background. Very fresh, a real classic, just beginning to take on tertiary character. Enjoyable now and for the next decade

One of my favorite lots from the 2020 #pnv #pnv20 #pnv2020 only 5 cases produced. A small blended selection of our finest Cabernet Sauvignon for Premiere Napa Valley
100% Cabernet Sauvignon from our top sites in the Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena nested appellations
Aging in oak tanks for one year, new French Limousin oak barrels for three years, and then one year in bottle
When the Lawrence family acquired Heitz Cellar in April 2018, they discovered a single dusty bottle in the wine library; a bottle of 1969 Lot C-91 Cabernet Sauvignon. After researching, we discovered wine collectors around the world had a few rare bottles in their cellar as well. Upon learning its origin and Joe Heitz’s inspiration for this singular bottling 50 years prior, we knew that it was time to rekindle the essence of this remarkable cuvée. In order to express the very best of Napa Valley, our winemaker began blending trials of our single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons in barrel, kept separate throughout their élevage. Sampling from barrels of our Oakville, Rutherford, Howell Mountain and St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon, Brittany Sherwood found the perfect marriage of these outstanding standalone wines. After blending, the wine continues to age in 100 percent new, French Limousin oak barrels for three years, followed by aging in bottle for an additional year. With the breadth of estate terroir that Heitz Cellar is fortunate to cultivate, we are able to create the quintessential Cabernet Sauvignon that embodies the elegance, ruggedness, refinement and balance that is uniquely Napa Valley.

This is a delicious and restrained Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley.
Full-bodied with medium acidity.
Showing red and black fruits with wood, earth, vegetables, spices, tobacco leaf, dark coffee and eucalyptus.
Grippy finish with raspberries.
This 6 year old Cabernet is still young and very tight. Might be in its dumb phase at this point, so it would be nice to try it again in 3 years.
Needs 10 years to mature properly.
The eucalyptus notes overwhelm the black fruits at the moment.
Showing good structure and nice complexity.
Wine Enthusiasts 93 points. Wine Spectator 93 points. Wine Advocate 92 points.
Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
14% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$100.
